Kara grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and completed her undergraduate degree at Duquesne University. She then headed south to West Virginia University where she completed her medical school training.

She is passionate about experiencing other cultures and providing equitable healthcare on a global scale. This interest ultimately introduced her to ophthalmology through her involvement and mentorship at Physicians for Human Rights at her medical school. As she explored programs, she was attracted to Louisville because of its high surgical volume, early autonomy, and the friendly culture amongst residents and faculty.

In her free time, she likes to hang out with her Golden Retriever Lemon, bake, workout, listen to Morbid, and travel.
