Josh grew up on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, went to undergrad + grad school at Texas A&M University and back to San Antonio for medical school.

In his free time, he likes to hunt, fish, and play golf. He is an avid college football fan and tries to make it back for at least 1 Aggie game per year. He also has a new baby boy which now take up the majority of his free time.

Josh chose Louisville for residency because the program has strong surgical training, but also a very manageable work life balance. Louisville as a city was also a great fit for his and his wife’s lifestyles—they are outdoorsy people and there’s an abundance of outdoor activities and nature trails to check out.

Currently, Dr. Iltis is leaning towards comprehensive ophthalmology after graduation but keeping his options open and excited for his subspecialty rotations!
